Benastra is an organic wine estate run by Joseph Paillé in Saint-Paul-de-Fenouillet, in the Fenouillèdes (Pyrénées-Orientales). Founded in 2015, it produces its wines in Ecocert certified organic farming on 11 hectares of vines planted on schist and gneiss soils in the Agly valley.

The winegrower
Joseph Paillé —
coming from Loire, rooted in Roussillon
Trained in the Loire Valley and Burgundy, co-founder of the Pithon-Paillé estate in Anjou, Joseph Paillé chose Fenouillèdes in 2015 to find what he had always been looking for: soils with character, altitude, freshness — and vines capable of expressing their origin.
In Benastra, he manages 11 hectares of organic farming, works the emblematic grape varieties of Roussillon — Grenache, Carignan, Syrah, Macabeu — and vinifies with measured intervention so that the wine speaks above all of its place.

The Terroir
Schists & Gneiss
of the Agly valley
At an altitude of 250 meters, between limestone, schist and gneiss, the Benastra vines take root in poor soils which force them to dig deep. The Tramontane sweeps the plots, naturally regulates the foliage and protects the vineyard without chemical intervention.
Result: wines marked by freshness and minerality — a rare signature in a Mediterranean vineyard.
