    Benastra — Bring good luck
    from the Agly Valley

    Organic wine estate · Saint-Paul-de-Fenouillet · Pyrénées-Orientales

    The origin of a name

Benastra is a term of Occitan origin. The verb benastrar means “to bring good luck”. This name reflects the ambition of the estate: to create living wines which carry within them the generosity of Roussillon and the singularity of its ancient terroirs.

The Vallée de l’Agly, in the Pyrénées-Orientales, is this territory: arid, sunny, crossed by the Agly river between black schists and thousand-year-old gneiss.

A domain born from a shared passion

Benastra was born from the meeting of three friends and their common desire to create living wines, anchored in their original territory. It is Joseph Paillé, winemaker, who is responsible for daily management today.

The estate is established in Saint-Paul-de-Fenouillet (66220), in the Vallée de l’Agly, in the heart of the Pyrénées-Orientales, in Roussillon.

The terroir of the Agly Valley

The Benastra vines extend between 250 and 500 meters of altituden in the Agly Valley. The soils, made up of black schists, gneiss and black marl, are very ancient rocks which give the wines their characteristic minerality and natural tension.

The centenary Carignans, shaped into goblet sizes according to the Mediterranean tradition, constitute the living heritage of the estate. These old vines, not very productive, produce grapes of remarkable concentration and complexity.
